Diamondback Graphite Fly Rods
Classic Trout and Classic Western Series Flyrods
Their Classic Trout and Classic Western series are the end product of 30 years of
engineering and rod building experience. Both series use a progressive taper
construction - intermediate modulus graphite blank with the distinctive "power
braid" overwrap on the prepreg to product a fly rod of incredible strength.
Diamond says this design produces rods that have superb balance, easy casting and smooth
action over a variety of distances.
- The Classic Trout series come in 7'6" 2 piece rods and 8' and 9'in 4
piece travel rods styles. All Classic Trout series are a medium action which means
the rod should load about in the middle of the length.
- The blank is an intermediate modulus graphite
- Scrim is bi-directional fiberglass. (Used to add hoop strength to the graphite blank
and prevent crushing under load)
Image shows the bi-directional fiberglass scrim around the graphite blank. This
style of manufacturing is used in all Diamondback Fly Rods.
- Ferrule is the spigot style which is considered to be one of the strongest types ( See
our page on Fly Rod Manufacturing for
definitions of scrim, modulus, and ferrule types)
- Grip is a cigar style using Flor+ grade cork. Western model uses a western style
grip.
- Stripping Guides and snake guides are hard chrome stainless steel
- Classic Trout rods use a medium action and Classic Western a medium fast action

Diamondglass® Fly Rods

fiber glass is outdated and old fashioned or too heavy. Wrong. Advances in glass
rods have kept pace with advances in graphite fly rods.
These fine glass rods are designed primarily for small stream fishing. Using S2
glass produces a light weight, highly response and accurate fly rod. The Diamondglass
rod is handsomely finished in black gloss, with highly polished rosewood reel seat inserts,
hard chrome snake guide and hialoy insert hard chrome stripping guides.
- Blank -- S2 Fiberglass reinforced with scrim
- Finish -- Black Gloss
- Action -- Medium Progressive
- Grip -- Western 6.5", Grade Flor+
- Stripping Guides -- Stainless Chrome with hialoy inserts
- Snake Guides -- Stainless Chrome
- Reel Seats -- Uplocking (Cork with slip rings on the 5 and 6 foot models),

line weighs in 2.0 and the 6.5 foot for a 3 line at 3.1 oz. While not quite as
light as graphite, they are not heavy either.
- MSRP -- 2 Pc rods from 5 foot through 8 foot for lines 2 through 4 and 3 piece
rods 7 foot through 8.5 feet for lines lines 3 through 4 are $295.
Editors Note: The first real fly rod I owned was a Fenwick 7.5 foot 4 piece glass
pack rod. By today's standards, this would be too heavy and hard to cast. But I
used it mostly on a stream where the wide spots were 25 feet. After I learned how, I
could "Tension Cast" 20 feet of line with a 10 foot leader into 10 inch pocket
water under willow branches 8 times out of 10. The other 2 the willows ate my flies. I
wonder what one of these Diamondback S2 Glass rods would do on this little stream
